</p><p>De Duitse ambassade in België heeft een einde gemaakt aan haar samenwerking met <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gent_Festival_van_Vlaanderen" class="extiw" title="w:Gent Festival van Vlaanderen">Gent Festival van Vlaanderen</a>. De reden is de annulering van een concert van de Israëlische dirigent <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lahav_Shani" class="extiw" title="w:Lahav Shani">Lahav Shani</a> naar aanleiding van de <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oorlog_in_Gaza_vanaf_2023" class="extiw" title="w:Oorlog in Gaza vanaf 2023">oorlog in Gaza</a>. Om het einde van de samenwerking te demonstreren werd het logo van de ambassade van de website van het festival verwijderd, alsook verwijzingen naar de concerten op de sociale mediakanalen.
</p><p>Op 18 september zou het <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%BCnchner_Philharmoniker" class="extiw" title="w:Münchner Philharmoniker">Münchner Philharmoniker</a> onder leiding van chef-dirigent Shani normaal gezien optreden in Gent, maar dat optreden werd geannuleerd. Volgens de organisatie "is het standbpunt van de dirigent ten opzichte van het genocidale regime niet duidelijk genoeg". De annulering kon al op de nodige kritiek rekenen, onder andere door Martin Kotthaus, de Duitse ambassadeur in België.

<p><a href="/wiki/Categorie:Noorwegen" title="Categorie:Noorwegen">Noorwegen</a>, <a href="/wiki/Categorie:Spanje" title="Categorie:Spanje">Spanje</a> en <a href="/wiki/Categorie:Ierland" title="Categorie:Ierland">Ierland</a> zullen over enkele dagen, op 28 mei, <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestina_(staat)" class="extiw" title="w:Palestina (staat)">Palestina</a> officieel erkennen als een <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/soevereine_staat" class="extiw" title="w:soevereine staat">soevereine staat</a>. De premiers van deze drie landen hebben dit deze week bekendgemaakt. Geheel centraal hierbij staat het recht van het <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestijnse_volk" class="extiw" title="w:Palestijnse volk">Palestijnse volk</a> op zelfbeschikking. Volgens <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonas_Gahr_St%C3%B8re" class="extiw" title="w:Jonas Gahr Støre">Jonas Gahr Støre</a>, de premier van Noorwegen, is deze erkenning de enige manier om nog via politieke wegen een uitweg te vinden in het aanhoudende conflict tussen de Israëliërs en de Palestijnen, dat momenteel zwaar escaleert (zie ook het <a href="/wiki/Categorie:Isra%C3%ABlisch-Palestijns_conflict_(2023-2024)" title="Categorie:Israëlisch-Palestijns conflict (2023-2024)">huidige Israëlisch-Palestijns conflict</a>).
</p><p>Bij de <a href="/wiki/Categorie:Isra%C3%ABl" title="Categorie:Israël">Israëlische</a> autoriteiten valt de voorgenomen erkenning van Palestina zeer verkeerd. Israël heeft als eerste reactie zijn ambassadeurs uit de drie hierboven genoemde landen teruggeroepen. Een woordvoerder namens <a href="/wiki/Categorie:Hamas" title="Categorie:Hamas">Hamas</a> heeft tegenover <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agence_France_Presse" class="extiw" title="w:Agence France Presse">Agence France Presse</a> positief gereageerd op het besluit van Noorwegen, Spanje en Ierland.
</p><p>Wereldwijd zijn er momenteel 143 landen (waarvan het merendeel buiten <a href="/wiki/Categorie:Europa" title="Categorie:Europa">Europa</a>) die Palestina als soevereine staat erkennen, dit aantal komt vanaf 28 mei dus uit op 146. Anderzijds zijn er binnen de <a href="/wiki/Categorie:Verenigde_Naties" title="Categorie:Verenigde Naties">VN</a> 165 landen die Israël als staat erkennen.

</p><p><b>Israël wil niet meer in de VN-Veiligheidsraad</b>
</p><p>Volgende maand wordt gestemd voor niet-permanente plaatsen in de <a href="/wiki/Categorie:VN-Veiligheidsraad" title="Categorie:VN-Veiligheidsraad">VN-Veiligheidsraad</a> in de periode 2019-2020. <a href="/wiki/Categorie:Isra%C3%ABl" title="Categorie:Israël">Israël</a> was een van de landen die daarvoor in de race was. Tot voor kort, vanavond werd namelijk bekend dat Israël zich als kandidaat heeft teruggetrokken. Een duidelijke reden hiervoor gaf het land er niet bij, een bron meldt dat het de kans op winst zeer klein acht.
</p><p>De VN-Veiligheidsraad bestaat uit 5 permanente en 10 niet-permanente leden. Elk jaar wordt er gestemd over vijf niet-permanente plaatsen, die dan aan vijf nieuwe landen worden toebedeeld. Dit wordt gedaan in groepen, Israël behoort tot de groep West-Europa en overige landen. In deze groep hadden nog twee andere landen een kandidatuur ingediend, namelijk <a href="/wiki/Categorie:Duitsland" title="Categorie:Duitsland">Duitsland</a> en <a href="/wiki/Categorie:Belgi%C3%AB" title="Categorie:België">België</a>. Voor de groep komen twee zetels vrij, waardoor Duitsland en België nu dus vrijwel zeker zijn van een plaats in de raad.
