<b>Internationaal Strafhof begint vooronderzoek naar president Duterte</b>
</p><p>Het <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internationaal_Strafhof" class="extiw" title="w:Internationaal Strafhof">Internationaal Strafhof</a> in <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Den_Haag" class="extiw" title="w:Den Haag">Den Haag</a> gaat een strafrechtelijk vooronderzoek instellen naar de president van de <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filipijnen" class="extiw" title="w:Filipijnen">Filipijnen</a>, <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodrigo_Duterte" class="extiw" title="w:Rodrigo Duterte">Rodrigo Duterte</a>. De president wordt verdacht van misdaden tegen de menselijkheid in zijn eigen <i>War on Drugs</i>, die hij op 1 juli 2016 (een dag na zijn officiële aantreden) aankondigde. De aanklacht tegen hem werd in april 2017 bij het Internationaal Strafhof ingediend door een Filipijnse advocaat en is nu in behandeling genomen. Aanklager <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatou_Bensouda" class="extiw" title="w:Fatou Bensouda">Fatou Bensouda</a> gaat het onderzoek leiden. Centraal staat de mogelijke betrokkenheid van Duterte en diens partij bij z'n 4000 (wellicht nog meer) door de Filipijnse politie gepleegde moorden op arme inwoners van de Filipijnen.
</p><p>Duterte heeft in een reactie aangegeven nog liever door een vuurpeloton geëxecuteerd te worden dan dat hij de gevangenis in zou moeten. "Als u me graag schuldig wilt bevinden, het zij zo", verklaarde hij. Verder ontkent Duterte dat hij de politie ooit opdracht zou hebben gegeven tot de drugsmoorden.

</p><p><b>Formeel onderzoek Strafhof naar Darfur</b>
</p><p>De aanklagers van het Internationaal Strafhof in Den Haag hebben nu ook een formeel onderzoek ingesteld naar de situatie in de regio <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darfur" class="extiw" title="w:Darfur">Darfur</a> in het westen van <a href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soedan" class="extiw" title="w:Soedan">Sudan</a>. Dat meldden bronnen rond het hof op zondag. De woordvoerder van hoofdaanklager Luis Moreno Ocampo wilde zondag nog geen commentaar geven op de berichten.
</p><p>De openbare aanklagers zouden zich gaan richten op beschuldigingen van moord, verkrachting en plundering door Arabische milities.
Het VN-hof heeft 51 verdachten op het oog,aldus de bronnen.
In Darfur speelt zich de grootste humanitaire crisis van dit moment af.
Arabische milities hebben daar tienduizenden burgers gedood. Zo'n twee miljoen mensen zijn op de vlucht geslagen.
De regering van Sudan is enkele malen beschuldigd voor het geven van steun aan de Arabische milities,wat zij zelf ontkennen.
</p><p>De Verenigde Staten gaven in de Veiligheidsraad enige tijd geleden al toestemming voor een verkennend onderzoek van het Strafhof naar de situatie in Darfur. Dat was erg opvallend, omdat de VS zelf het Strafhof weigeren te erkennen.
